Funding for FBCUs, TCCUs, and MSIs will support innovation and degree completion.
The U.S. Department of Education introduced two grant programs that will invest a total of approximately $100 million to support research infrastructure and enhance student success among underserved populations at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs), and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs).
“These grant programs represent opportunities for our nation’s most inclusive and diverse colleges and universities to expand their capacity to drive research and innovation and strengthen evidence-based supports that help underserved students successfully complete their degrees and build brighter futures,” said Education Secretary Miguel Cardona.
This investment includes enhancements in research productivity, faculty expertise, graduate programs, physical infrastructure, human capital development, and collaborative partnerships to secure external funding. For HBCUs and MSIs, the grant is geared toward elevating their research activity to achieve higher Carnegie Classification designations, while for TCCUs, it will support augmented research activities, faculty development, and infrastructure improvements.
